Jammu, May 30 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah, currently on a two-day visit to the Jammu region, is scheduled to meet families affected by cross-border shelling and interact with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Poonch district on Friday.
The Home Minister departed for Poonch from Jammu this morning. He will address civilians impacted by recent Pakistani shelling at the Dak Bungalow in Poonch, followed by an interaction with BSF jawans at the Khanetar-based unit headquarters.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is accompanying the Home Minister during this visit.
Shah is also expected to visit several damaged religious sites, including the Singh Sabha Gurdwara, and will assess the extent of the destruction in the district during a meeting with officials, sources said.
He arrived in Jammu on Thursday evening and proceeded to Raj Bhawan, where he chaired a high-level security review meeting with senior officers from the Army, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and the local administration.
This marks Amit Shah’s first visit to the Union Territory since the conclusion of Operation Sindoor.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Home Minister said he chaired a review meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. He evaluated the security arrangements and emphasized the need for heightened vigilance to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage.
“The Central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration are fully committed to providing all necessary facilities for the pilgrims,” he said.
During the visit, Shah is also expected to hand over appointment letters to the next of kin of civilians who lost their lives in the cross-border shelling incidents in Poonch.
