Shivraj Singh Chouhan launches the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’

Odisha , May 29, 2025 : Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the ambitious ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ today from Sakhigopal in Odisha’s Puri district. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), aims to revolutionize Indian agriculture through scientific innovation and grassroots engagement.

Over the course of 15 days, Shri Chouhan will travel across nearly 20 states to drive this nationwide campaign. State governments are expected to play a vital role in ensuring its success through collective ownership and active participation.

Speaking at the launch, Shri Chouhan emphasized the campaign’s two-way communication model—where scientists will disseminate technical knowledge to farmers while simultaneously collecting feedback on real-world challenges. This interaction is set to guide future research and deliver localized solutions to farmers.

To operationalize the initiative, 16,000 scientists have been mobilized into 2,170 teams. Each team will visit two villages per day, holding direct dialogues with farmers. These sessions will focus on climate-resilient farming practices, optimal crop selection, appropriate seed varieties, fertilizer use, and promote awareness of natural farming, along with the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds.

“The campaign bridges the gap between lab and land,” Shri Chouhan said, highlighting the active involvement of ICAR scientists and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in delivering knowledge and innovation directly to the farming community.

He further urged citizens and stakeholders across the country to unite in support of this campaign and contribute to its success.

Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, also present at the event, hailed the initiative as a transformative step by the Government of India to raise awareness among farmers about modern agricultural technologies and improved seed varieties.

The campaign will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025, covering over 700 districts. It will involve 731 KVKs, 113 ICAR institutes, as well as officials from agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries departments. Innovative farmers will also be engaged in the drive.

The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and is poised to be a significant milestone in reshaping Indian agriculture.
