New Delhi, May 23, 2025 — Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Dr. Arvind Panagariya, Chairman of the Finance Commission, in the national capital on Friday. Accompanied by senior state officials, the Chief Minister made a strong case for enhanced financial support for the hill state.
During the meeting, state government officials delivered a detailed presentation to the Commission and submitted an additional memorandum outlining the state’s financial concerns and developmental needs.
Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted the unique challenges faced by hilly regions and pressed for increased fund allocation. He advocated for a “green bonus” in recognition of the environmental services rendered by Himachal Pradesh, particularly in preserving its delicate ecosystem.
Raising concern over revenue losses, the Chief Minister pointed out the reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues and urged the Commission to ensure due compensation. He further emphasized that the Revenue Deficit Grant for Himachal Pradesh should be increased rather than reduced.
Finance Commission Chairman Dr. Panagariya assured that the Commission would carefully consider the state’s submissions.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Principal Advisor to CM Ram Subhag Singh, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Principal Secretary (Finance) Devesh Kumar, Secretary to CM Rakesh Kanwar, and other senior state government officials.
