Faridabad, May 7: As part of the nationwide Civil Defence Exercise, a mock drill simulating an air strike was conducted across 11 key locations in Faridabad district on Wednesday afternoon. The drill commenced precisely at 4PM with the sound of sirens, triggering alertness and swift action by emergency teams.
Rescue teams, including ambulances, fire brigades, bomb squads, and disaster response volunteers, were dispatched from the helipad ground in Sector 12 to their designated sites. The district administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Mr. Vikram Singh, ensured that the operation was executed in a planned and efficient manner to safeguard life and property in the event of a disaster.
The aim of the mock drill was testing and strengthening the civil defence system and emergency response mechanisms. At all marked locations, people present on the first and second floors were promptly evacuated to the ground level and moved to safe zones. Those trapped on higher floors were rescued by fire personnel and disaster volunteers and taken to nearby hospitals.
The drill emphasized the importance of identifying safe indoor spaces or basements for shelter, practicing family drills, switching off lights, and assembling in safe zones within 1–2 minutes. A control room was set up at the district secretariat to coordinate the entire operation, and information received there guided the response efforts on the ground.
DC Vikram Singh emphasized that the drill aimed to raise awareness about the do’s and don’ts in emergency situations and urged the public to report any suspicious activity immediately to the police or local authorities. He noted that under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Incident Response System (IRS) has been formally implemented at both district and state levels to streamline emergency responses and reduce confusion and reliance on ad-hoc measures.
A blackout drill was also conducted from 7:50 PM to 8:00 PM across urban and rural areas of the district to simulate an air strike scenario. Residents were urged to switch off all indoor and outdoor lights, including those powered by inverters, and avoid using mobile phones or LED devices near windows during this time.
A high-level review meeting was held by DC Vikram Singh and SP Hemendra Meena, along with ADCs and other senior officials, to assess the district’s preparedness for emergencies.
