New Delhi, May 6 : Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Shri Vijender Gupta, honored meritorious students at the 58th Annual Day celebrations of Mata Sundri College for Women. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the pivotal role women play in shaping society and emphasized that a society can truly progress only when its women are empowered.
“Today, Indian women are making remarkable contributions across all sectors. When women move forward, the entire society becomes empowered and achieves new heights of development,” said Shri Gupta. He encouraged students to move ahead in life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a positive outlook.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Padma Shri Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney (Member of Rajya Sabha and Chairperson of the College Governing Body), Smt. Nandini Paliwal (Secretary, Higher Education & Training, Government of Delhi), College Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Shri Harmeet Kalka (President, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee), and other eminent dignitaries.
Shri Gupta reflected on the college’s historical journey, noting that it began in 1967 within the premises of the Mata Sundri Gurudwara with just 407 students. Today, it stands as a premier institution of higher learning.
“Mata Sundri College is not just a beacon of academic excellence but also a center for character-building and social responsibility,” he said. “The college embodies the ideals of Mata Sundri Ji, whose life was a unique blend of devotion, strength, and leadership.”
He stressed the importance of inculcating moral values along with education, urging students to approach their academic and personal journeys with integrity, responsibility, and thoughtful decision-making.
Highlighting various government initiatives, Shri Gupta remarked, “India is a land of talent with no dearth of opportunities. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, several programs have been launched to promote youth development, employment, and entrepreneurship—such as the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, National Apprenticeship Training Scheme, and Startup India.”
He also referenced the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana and the National Career Service Portal as key initiatives providing financial assistance and employment opportunities to youth, along with the Atal Innovation Mission to foster innovation and creativity.
Commending the college for its achievements in academics, cultural activities, sports, and community service, Shri Gupta encouraged the students to pursue their goals with passion, curiosity, and a forward-thinking mindset.
During the ceremony, Shri Gupta felicitated students for their excellence in various fields. Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur appreciated Shri Gupta’s inspiring words and urged students to draw valuable lessons from his address.
