Srinagar, May 1 ,2025 : Pakistan’s military once again resorted to unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control (LoC) during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, targeting several Indian posts in Jammu and Kashmir. This marks the seventh consecutive day of such firing incidents.
The latest ceasefire breach occurred despite discussions between the directors general of military operations of India and Pakistan, reportedly held over the hotline on Tuesday. The frequent violations in the past week have raised concerns over the stability of the ceasefire agreement signed in February 2021, which governs the 740 km long LoC between the two nations.
The Army confirmed that the posts were targeted in the regions of Kupwara, Uri in Kashmir, and Akhnoor in Jammu.
“On the night of April 30-May 1, 2025, Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC, targeting posts opposite Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor in Jammu & Kashmir. The Indian Army responded appropriately to the fire,” said an official Army statement.
The rise in ceasefire violations follows the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, including 25 tourists.
The recent surge in ceasefire breaches began on the night of April 24–25 in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara and steadily escalated in the following days. On April 25–26, Pakistani forces opened fire across multiple sectors along the Kashmir LoC. The violations intensified further between April 26–27, with Indian positions in the Tutmari Gali area of Nowgam and Rampur in Boniyar Uri, Baramulla, coming under fire.
Further violations were reported in Kupwara and Poonch districts on April 27–28, with continuous hostilities in Kupwara, Baramulla, and Akhnoor from April 28–29. The most widespread firing occurred during the night of April 29–30, when Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked small-arms fire from multiple locations along the LoC, including Naushera, Sunderbani, Akhnoor, Baramulla, and Kupwara, as well as across the International Border in the Pargwal sector.
