BERLIN, 26 APRIL 2025: The Embassy of India in Berlin organized a solemn event on Friday to honor the victims of the horrific terror attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The attack claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians and left several others injured.
Held at the Chancery premises, the memorial gathering witnessed the participation of nearly 200 people. High-ranking officials from Germany’s Federal Foreign Ministry, the Federal Ministry of Defence, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and members of the diplomatic corps, including Defence Attaches from various missions in Germany, attended the event to express solidarity with India. Members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India also joined in paying tribute.
India’s Ambassador to Germany, Ajit Gupte, addressed the gathering, offering heartfelt tributes to the victims. He also conveyed the remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the aftermath of the attack, reaffirming India’s unwavering resolve to defeat terrorism. Ambassador Gupte highlighted how the perpetrators aimed to destabilize the peace and normalcy achieved in Kashmir in recent years, particularly reflected by the surge in tourism to the region.
In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Berlin stated, “@eoiberlin organised an event on 25 April 2025, in memory of the loss of innocent lives in Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir. Amb @AjitVGupte addressed gathering and offered heartfelt tributes to the victims. Representatives from @GermanyDiplo, @BMAS_bund, @BMVg_Bundeswehr, members of diplomatic corps including Defence Attaches, Indian diaspora and friends of India paid homage to victims and expressed solidarity with India.”
In response to the attack, the Indian government has announced several tough diplomatic measures. These include the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, reduction in diplomatic staff at High Commissions, and halting operations under the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960.
Addressing a rally in Madhubani, Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the nation that the terrorists and conspirators behind the Pahalgam attack would face consequences “beyond their imagination.” PM Modi emphasized that India’s resolve is stronger than ever, declaring that the backbone of terrorism will be broken by the collective willpower of 140 crore Indians.
He asserted that terrorism would never break India’s spirit, and pledged that every effort would be made to bring justice to the victims, stating, “Everyone who believes in humanity stands with India during these times.”
