Delhi Police launches Smart Police Booth at IGI Airport to Enhance Passenger Safety

The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, inaugurated the Smart Police Booth at Terminal-3, Arrival Area, Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on April 5th, 2025 and dedicated it to the service of passengers and citizens. The booth, established by Delhi Police in collaboration with GMR group, is a major initiative aimed at improving passenger safety, enhancing security measures and providing efficient, citizen-centric services at one of the busiest airports in the country.

Sh. Sanjay Arora, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Sh. Vinai Kumar Saxena, presenting him with a sapling. The Hon’ble LG was given a detailed walkthrough of the booth’s features and functionality by Addl. CP, IGI Airport, Ms. Usha Rangnani, who briefed him about its advanced technological integrations and the services it offers to the public.

This initiative aligns with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Digital India and SMART Policing initiatives, representing the adoption of innovative, technology-driven solutions in policing to provide enhanced safety and convenience for citizens. The Smart Police Booth is a step forward in strengthening the public-police interface, ensuring quick response and round-the-clock accessibility to police assistance.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor applauded the collaborative efforts of Delhi Police and GMR in establishing the booth. He emphasized the utility of such initiatives in creating a safer and more secure environment for travelers, highlighting how technology-driven solutions can transform policing to meet the modern-day demands of public safety and convenience.

Special Commissioner of Police, PTSD, Sh. Robin Hibu, also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to the Hon’ble LG and other dignitaries. He underscored the Smart Police Booth’s role in bridging the gap between citizens and law enforcement while ensuring prompt and effective resolution of public grievances.

The program also included a short film that showcased the features, objectives and operations of the Smart Police Booth. Sh. Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, DIAL, GMR was presented with a memento and a certificate of recognition for GMR’s significant contribution to the establishment of this advanced facility. Additionally, certificates of recognition were presented to two trainers who conducted Self-Defense programs for female staff working in hospitality industry in Aerocity, reinforcing Delhi Police’s commitment to empowering women and ensuring safety across various sectors.

 

The Smart Police Booth is a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance the experience of travelers by integrating advanced technological features. It offers real-time information, including flight arrivals and departures, security alerts, emergency contact details, and travel guidelines, accessible through intuitive digital board and interactive panels. Travelers can conveniently file e-FIRs, report lost items, and submit missing person reports directly at the booth, eliminating the need to visit a police station. Additionally, the interactive panel provides comprehensive information about IGI Airport and its surroundings, such as important helplines, tourist attractions, transportation hubs, entertainment venues, shopping and dining options, lost and found services, and locations of nearby hospitals, metro stations, and police stations. This initiative reflects the Delhi Police’s commitment to leveraging technology for public convenience and safety.

The booth is also equipped with computers, two printers, a scanner, and Wi-Fi connectivity for efficient handling of complaints. A dedicated CCTV system offers live monitoring of terminal entry and exit points, enhancing security and enabling quick responses to incidents. With trained police personnel, including male and female officers, available 24/7, the booth ensures round-the-clock assistance for passengers’ inquiries, complaints, and safety needs.
