TDP Supports Waqf Amendment Bill, Calls It Beneficial for Minority Community

New Delhi, April,2,2025  – The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), a key ally of the NDA government, on Wednesday supported the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, stating that the reforms will empower the minority community, particularly women.

During the debate, TDP leader Krishna Prasad Tenneti stressed the importance of utilizing Waqf properties, valued at over ₹1.2 lakh crore and spanning 36.18 lakh acres, for the economic and social upliftment of minorities. He highlighted that administrative inefficiencies, mismanagement, and vested interests have hindered the optimal use of these resources.

“Our party strongly believes that Waqf assets should directly benefit the Muslim community, particularly women, youth, and marginalized sections,” Tenneti stated.

He further pointed out that TDP was the first party to establish a special committee on Waqf properties and had proposed three key amendments in the bill:

  1. Ensuring the validity of all registered Waqf properties without requiring a deed.

  2. Assigning dispute resolution to an officer ranked higher than a collector.

  3. Extending the deadline for registration of Waqf properties.

Tenneti also criticized the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), accusing it of using Muslims as a vote bank rather than working for their true development. He reaffirmed TDP’s commitment to protecting and uplifting the minority community through progressive reforms.
