Gallantry Medals are conferred for rare, conspicuous acts of bravery, often involving life-threatening situations, performed either in the line of duty or in saving lives and property. The risk involved is evaluated in relation to the officer’s duties and responsibilities.

Of the 95 Gallantry Awards, 28 personnel were recognized for their valor in Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 28 for their service in Jammu & Kashmir, three for acts of bravery in the Northeast, and 36 for gallant actions in other regions.

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, which acknowledges exceptional records of service, was awarded to 101 individuals, including 85 from Police Service, five from Fire Service, seven from Civil Defence and Home Guard, and four from Correctional Services.

Additionally, 746 personnel were awarded Medals for Meritorious Service for their exemplary dedication and resourcefulness in duty. Of these, 634 went to Police Service, 37 to Fire Service, 39 to Civil Defence and Home Guard, and 36 to Correctional Services.

The statement emphasized that the awards reflect the government’s recognition of the unwavering commitment and courage displayed by these personnel, often in the face of great danger.

These honors underscore the critical role of security forces and emergency responders in ensuring public safety, maintaining order, and responding to crises with exceptional courage and dedication. They also highlight the government’s efforts to acknowledge and reward such invaluable contributions to the nation.

This year’s awards continue a tradition of recognizing the sacrifice, resilience, and outstanding service of individuals who go beyond the call of duty to protect and serve. The medals will be presented at a formal ceremony as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
