New Delhi : The counting of votes for the Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana is currently underway, with significant trends emerging from both states.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference and Congress alliance is performing well, with the National Conference leading in the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. So far, eight results have been declared, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing five seats. The BJP candidates have won from Chenani, Udhampur East, Billawar, Basholi, and Jammu West constituencies. Meanwhile, the National Conference has bagged three seats—Gurez, Hazratbal, and Zadibal.
The trends for the remaining 82 seats indicate that the National Conference is leading in 39, BJP is leading in 24, the Indian National Congress in 6, Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party in 3, Jammu & Kashmir People’s Conference in 1, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 1. Independents are leading in 7 seats.
Prominent candidates include former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of the National Conference, who is leading from both Budgam and Ganderbal seats. Peerzada Mohammad Syed of Congress is leading from Anantnag, while Sajjad Gani Lone of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference is ahead in Handwara. Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami of CPI(M) is leading in Kulgam, and Congress leader Gulam Mohammad Mir is ahead from the Dooru seat. Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri of National Conference is leading from Srigufwara-Bijbehara in a contest against Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti.
Polling for the 90 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir was conducted in three phases on 18th and 25th of September, and 1st of October.
In Haryana, early trends show that the BJP and Congress are locked in a competitive race. The two results declared so far saw BJP winning the Jind seat and Congress securing Nuh. For the remaining 88 seats, BJP is leading in 49, Congress in 34, Indian National Lok Dal in 1, Bahujan Samaj Party in 1, and Independents in 3.
Notable candidates include Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini of the BJP, who is leading from Ladwa. Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is ahead from Garhi Sampla Kiloi in Rohtak. BJP’s Manoj Kumar is leading from Hathin, and Nikhil Madan from Sonipat. Haryana Minister Mool Chand Sharma is ahead in Ballabhgarh, while independent candidate Devendra Kadyan leads in Ganaur. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Congress is leading in Julana.
