Kerala is experiencing its most severe landslide disaster in history, with the death toll from the multiple landslides in Wayanad district now reaching 165. The disaster struck Churalmala and Mundakai, causing extensive damage to both life and property.
Rescue operations are actively underway, involving the Armed Forces, NDRF teams, and state forces. Over 1,000 people have been rescued so far. The situation remains critical as more bodies are being retrieved, and the toll is expected to rise, with over 100 individuals still missing and several bodies likely buried beneath the debris.
Currently, 186 people are receiving treatment in various hospitals, and over 3,000 individuals are taking refuge in relief camps across Wayanad. The Army is constructing a Bailey Bridge in Mundakai to expedite relief efforts. The State Government has advised the public to avoid unnecessary visits to the disaster-affected areas. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is holding high-level meetings to assess and manage the situation.
