New Delhi July 11 2024 : The Delhi government has announced a significant revision in pollution-checking fees for vehicles after a hiatus of 13 years. Effective immediately, the new rates are aimed at keeping pace with the escalating costs associated with pollution checking services.
The revised rates are as follows:
Petrol, CNG, or LPG two and three-wheelers: ₹80
Petrol, CNG, or LPG four-wheelers: ₹110
Diesel-propelled vehicles: ₹140
Delhi’s Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot, justified the decision citing the necessity to meet the demands of stakeholders, including the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association. He emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding air quality standards in the city.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) on Thursday recorded a moderate level of 185.0. Recent weather conditions, including intermittent spells of rain and wind, have contributed to improving the city’s AQI. In June, Delhi witnessed AQI levels below 100 for seven consecutive days, with further improvements observed into July.
Wednesday’s rain brought relief but also led to waterlogging and traffic congestion in various parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “yellow alert,” predicting continued light to moderate rain in Delhi.
The revision in pollution certificate rates underscores the government’s efforts to enhance air quality measures amid changing environmental conditions in the capital.
