Uttar Pradesh: 2 Killed, 16 Injured in Double-Decker Bus Collision in Hathras

Lucknow July 11 2024 : At least two people lost their lives and 16 others were injured when a double-decker sleeper bus collided with a truck in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday morning. The accident occurred near Toli village in the Thana Sikandrarao area, as confirmed by District Magistrate Ashish Kumar.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate notice of the incident and directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, according to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

The collision happened when the bus, due to the negligence of its driver, rammed into a truck parked on the roadside. This tragic incident resulted in two fatalities and left around 16 people injured, said Ashish Kumar.

Upon receiving the information, Hathras Superintendent of Police Nipun Aggarwal, along with other police officials, promptly arrived at the scene to carry out a rescue operation. The injured were quickly admitted to a nearby hospital.

Chief Minister Adityanath expressed his grief over the loss of lives and instructed officials to expedite the rescue efforts for the injured, as mentioned in the CMO’s statement.

This incident follows a similar accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district just a day earlier. In that tragedy, 18 people were killed and 19 others injured when a double-decker sleeper bus headed for Delhi collided with a milk tanker on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The accident took place around 5 a.m. near Jojikot village in the Behta Mujhawar police station area.

District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi reported that the bus, which was traveling from Motihari in Bihar, appeared to be speeding and struck the milk tanker from behind. A probe has been launched to investigate the matter further.

Rathi also noted that 20 passengers with minor injuries were transported to Delhi on another bus. The initial bus was carrying 60 passengers at the time of the accident.

Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow, SB Shiradkar, told news agency PTI that 14 men, three women, and one child were among those killed in the Unnao accident.
