Canopy Collapse at Rajkot Airport Follows Delhi T-1 Incident

Weather-Related Incidents Highlight Infrastructure Vulnerabilities

Gujarat 29 June, 2024: A canopy at the passenger pickup and drop-off area of Rajkot Airport in Gujarat collapsed on Saturday amid heavy rainfall. This incident occurred just a day after a tragic roof collapse at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport Terminal 1.

Fortunately, initial reports indicate that there were no injuries or casualties in the Rajkot incident. The canopy collapse came shortly after the IGI Terminal 1 incident on Friday morning, which resulted in the death of a cab driver and injuries to eight others.

The collapse at IGI occurred around 5 a.m. and has led to the indefinite suspension of operations at the terminal, which typically handles about 200 flights daily. Heavy rain and strong winds are suspected to be contributing factors, though an investigation is ongoing.

In Rajkot, while the collapse caused damage to a parked car, no injuries were reported.
