The Impressive TimesMumbai | January 20, 2026 — An autorickshaw driver was injured after a late-night road accident in Mumbai’s Juhu area involving a vehicle associated with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s security detail. The incident, which occurred on Monday night, has prompted police action and raised questions about convoy safety in busy residential zones.
According to officials, the mishap took place between 8:30 pm and 9 pm near Mukteshwar Road. Preliminary findings suggest that a high-end car, reportedly part of a security escort, struck an autorickshaw, causing a chain reaction in which the three-wheeler collided with another vehicle in the convoy.
Footage from the scene, widely shared on social media platforms, showed extensive damage to the autorickshaw, while one of the escort vehicles was seen toppled on its side. Residents and passersby rushed to assist those involved, while personnel from the fire brigade and local police worked to manage the situation and restore traffic.
The injured autorickshaw driver was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. His family later expressed concern over his condition, stating that he had suffered serious injuries. The driver’s brother appealed to authorities and concerned parties to ensure proper medical care and financial assistance.
“Our livelihood has been destroyed overnight. The rickshaw is beyond repair and my brother needs ongoing treatment. We are only asking for medical help and compensation so he can recover and return to work,” he said.
The Juhu police have registered a case against the driver of the Mercedes vehicle on charges related to reckless and negligent driving. Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and responsibility.
Police also clarified that Akshay Kumar was not present in the vehicle at the time of the accident, nor was any member of his immediate family inside the car that struck the autorickshaw. Only security personnel were reportedly occupying the vehicle involved in the collision.
Sources indicated that the convoy was escorting the actor’s wife, author and former actress Twinkle Khanna, back home from the airport following an international trip. No injuries were reported among the convoy members.
As of now, neither Akshay Kumar nor Twinkle Khanna has issued a public statement regarding the incident.
Akshay Kumar, like several high-profile figures in the Hindi film industry, is provided with enhanced security due to his public stature and past threat assessments. Actors such as Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have also been assigned similar protection arrangements in recent years. While the exact nature of such security cover remains confidential, the actor is frequently seen accompanied by guards during public appearances, including during recent civic elections.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the challenges of managing security convoys on congested city roads, particularly in residential neighbourhoods. Authorities have assured that appropriate legal steps will be taken following the completion of the probe.
