Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav described Bharat Bhavan as more than a building, calling it “a creation of life” whose glorious legacy is being revived with renewed energy. Inaugurating the 10-day Foundation Day celebrations marking the 44th anniversary of Bharat Bhavan, CM said art is a powerful force that unites society, bridges distances, fosters harmony and builds a sensitive, positive social environment. Lighting the ceremonial lamp, he formally opened the celebrations, which will continue till February 22 with participation from eminent artists, writers and cultural practitioners from across the country.
CM honoured renowned flautist Padma Vibhushan Hariprasad Chaurasia and Bharat Bhavan trustee Padma Sushri Bhuri Bai with a shawl and Shrifal. Praising Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, he said that when the maestro plays the flute, “an inanimate object comes alive that is art, that is devotion.”
Highlighting Bharat Bhavan’s four-decade journey, CM said the institution has consistently nurtured both established and emerging artists while connecting folk traditions with contemporary creativity.
He described it as a rare centre that offers a vibrant platform for classical and folk music, theatre, literature and visual arts under one roof. He noted that Bharat Bhavan has significantly contributed to placing Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh prominently on the national and global cultural map.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment, he said institutions like Bharat Bhavan will continue to receive full support to ensure the preservation and promotion of India’s artistic heritage for future generations. Additional Chief Secretary (Culture & Home) and Trustee Secretary of Bharat Bhavan, Shivshekhar Shukla, said that Bharat Bhavan has become not just a cultural complex but a symbol of Bhopal’s cultural soul.
Established on 13 February 1982, it was envisioned as a centre harmonising Indian tradition, folk life, and contemporary creative expression. Over 44 years, it has fulfilled this vision by establishing a distinct identity in art, literature, music, theatre and visual arts. Director of Culture N.P. Namdev proposed the vote of thanks.Trustee member and senior theatre personality Rajeev Verma, MLA Umakant Sharma, and a large number of artists and art lovers were present at the ceremony.
