Massive Tragedy Strikes RCB Celebration in Bengaluru: 11 Dead, Dozens Injured in Stampede Outside Chinnaswamy Stadium

Bengaluru, June 4– What was meant to be a night of glory for Royal Challengers Bengaluru turned into one of the darkest days in the city’s sporting history. As thousands gathered to cheer their team’s historic IPL triumph, chaos broke out outside Bengaluru’s iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium, leading to a devastating stampede that left 11 people dead and more than 30 injured.

The city had erupted in celebration after RCB finally lifted the IPL trophy, ending an 18-year drought. The excitement spiraled out of control when an overwhelming crowd, estimated at over two lakh, assembled outside the stadium for the felicitation ceremony, which was to be attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and team icon Virat Kohli.

Unfortunately, inadequate arrangements and unanticipated crowd surges led to panic and stampede-like conditions. Eye-witnesses described a “wall of people collapsing onto each other” as fans jostled for space, resulting in suffocation, injuries, and fatalities.

Authorities were caught off guard by the sheer number of attendees. The Chief Minister has called for a high-level investigation into the incident. “We did not anticipate this volume. It’s a tragic moment for Karnataka,” Siddaramaiah said in a brief statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives, calling it a “shocking and deeply saddening” incident.

Meanwhile, political blame games have begun. The opposition BJP launched a scathing attack on the state government, accusing it of gross mismanagement and demanding immediate resignations of key ministers, including Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar.

RCB, mourning the loss of their fans, shared a heartfelt post, stating: “This win was for our fans, and we are devastated by the tragedy that has unfolded. Our prayers are with the families.”
