Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde delivered a strong rebuke to the Congress, criticizing their allegations of corruption against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Shinde highlighted numerous scandals that occurred under the Congress-led UPA government’s tenure from 2004 to 2014, such as coal allotment, the Commonwealth Games, and the Augusta helicopter purchase. He argued that the Congress lacked the moral high ground to accuse others of corruption, referring to their governance as marked by ‘cut, commission, and corruption’.
Shinde’s remarks were a direct response to Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole’s recent accusation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following a clearance given to Mumbai North West MP Ravindra Waikar in a case concerning civic land and a luxury hotel. Shinde expressed confidence in the ruling alliance Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, asserting their strong prospects in the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council elections.
The exchange underscores escalating political tensions in Maharashtra, with Shinde positioning Mahayuti as a formidable force amidst opposition scrutiny and criticism.
