Hisar Girl Defies All Odds, Gets Honoured by Microsoft America’s Head for Her Outstanding Journey from IIT to Tech Giant
From scrap dealer’s daughter to Microsoft engineer—Hisar’s Simran earns ₹55 lakh job offer and wins praise from Microsoft America’s Head.

Balsmand, Hisar | July 3 — In an inspiring tale of grit, ambition, and unbreakable willpower, Simran, the daughter of a scrap dealer from a remote village in Haryana, has landed a prestigious job offer of ₹55 lakh per annum at Microsoft. Her extraordinary rise from Balsmand village in Hisar district to one of the world’s top tech companies is capturing hearts across the nation.

Raised in a humble household where her father, Rajesh Kumar, earned a modest living collecting and selling junk, Simran’s early life was marked by economic hardship. With four siblings and limited resources, education was the only escape — and Simran seized every opportunity with fierce determination.

 IIT Dream Realised at 17

At just 17 years old, Simran cracked the prestigious IIT entrance exam on her first attempt, securing a seat at IIT Mandi in the Electrical Engineering department. Despite not having a background in computer science — the standard route to software roles — Simran didn’t let that limit her ambitions.

Driven by her dream to work at Microsoft, she taught herself programming and computer science fundamentals during her college years. She tirelessly honed her coding skills, determined to break through barriers and challenge stereotypes.

Outshining 300 Interns at Microsoft

Her hard work paid off when she secured an internship at Microsoft’s Hyderabad campus, where she outperformed 300 fellow interns and was declared the top performer. Her exceptional performance caught the eye of senior leadership at Microsoft.

In a moment of national pride, the Head of Microsoft America travelled to India to personally congratulate Simran — a rare honour that left her village bursting with celebration.

As news of her job offer spread, Balsmand village erupted in joy. Locals gathered to play drums, distribute sweets, and honour the girl who dared to dream big. Simran’s journey has become a source of inspiration for thousands of young girls in rural India who aspire to break free from socio-economic limitations.

Simran’s success story is a glowing example of what perseverance, self-learning, and courage can achieve. Her journey sends a powerful message to students — especially girls — that no dream is too distant, no background too humble, to achieve global success.
