Kurukshetra, Jan 22, 2026 – In a major development for sports in Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated a state-of-the-art synthetic hockey ground at the Kurukshetra University Sports Complex. The facility has been constructed under the Khelo India Scheme with an investment of approximately ₹5.50 crore, aimed at providing world-class infrastructure to nurture the state’s budding athletes.

During the event, CM Saini also laid the foundation stone for an all-weather swimming pool, to be built at an estimated cost of ₹8 crore. Both projects form part of the Union Government’s Khelo India initiative, reflecting a strong commitment to developing sporting talent in Haryana and across the country.
Speaking with student-athletes and university officials, CM Saini highlighted the government’s focus on high-quality sports infrastructure. “Providing world-class facilities is essential for Haryana’s athletes to excel at the Olympics and international events,” he said. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of sports nurseries, training centres, and modern infrastructure in helping uncover and nurture hidden talent in the state.

The Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Somnath Sachdeva, welcomed the Chief Minister and provided details of the projects. He noted that the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had allocated a total budget of ₹10 crore, with ₹5.50 crore spent on the synthetic hockey ground and the remaining ₹4.50 crore set aside for a multipurpose indoor sports hall in the campus.
Following the inauguration, CM Saini and Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam participated in a friendly hockey session on the new turf, giving athletes and students a firsthand experience of the facility. The synthetic ground, equipped to international standards, is expected to serve as a hub for state-level and national-level hockey training and competitions, enabling young players to sharpen their skills and gain exposure.

The Chief Minister reiterated that Haryana has consistently produced top-performing athletes in national and international competitions. “With the Khelo India Scheme and our state initiatives, we are committed to strengthening sports infrastructure and creating opportunities for athletes to achieve greater success on global platforms,” he said.
These developments mark a significant step toward Haryana’s vision of becoming a leading sports state, offering modern facilities, promoting physical fitness, and supporting athletes in reaching new heights of excellence.
