Kupwara (Jammu & Kashmir) | January 30- Security forces deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district responded swiftly after multiple unidentified drones were detected near the border on Friday morning. The aerial objects were seen approaching Indian territory in the Keran sector, a sensitive forward area known for cross-border activity.
According to security sources, troops on surveillance duty noticed nearly 15 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) flying close to the Indian side of the LoC near the Jodha Makan Beerandori region. Sensing a possible intrusion attempt, soldiers immediately took defensive measures and opened warning fire toward the drones.
Following the Army’s response, the UAVs reportedly retreated and moved back across the border. Officials confirmed that no casualties, injuries, or material damage occurred during the brief incident.
Security agencies have since increased vigilance in the sector, stepping up aerial monitoring and ground patrols to prevent any further attempts at intrusion. The Army continues to maintain a high alert along the LoC, especially in areas where drone activity has been reported in the past.
Defence observers note that drones are increasingly being used for surveillance and cross-border smuggling attempts, making rapid detection and response crucial for border security. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and tracking any suspicious aerial movement in the region.
No official statement had been released immediately after the incident, but sources indicated that standard operating procedures were followed to safeguard the area.
