Doda, Jammu & Kashmir – In a tragic accident, four soldiers lost their lives and nine others were injured when an army vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a 200-foot-deep gorge in Thanala, Bhaderwah subdivision, Doda district.
The bullet-proof vehicle, carrying 17 soldiers and heading towards a high-altitude post, reportedly lost control at Khanni Top on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road before plunging into the deep ditch.
Officials confirmed that a joint rescue operation by the army and local police was immediately launched. While the bodies of the four soldiers were recovered from the gorge, nine others were rescued with injuries. Of these, three soldiers sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Udhampur Military Hospital for specialized treatment.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident. The incident has prompted the army to review safety measures for vehicles moving in hilly and high-altitude terrain.
This tragic accident underscores the risks faced by armed forces personnel while performing duties in challenging terrains. Tributes have poured in for the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
