Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu Review Yamuna Rejuvenation, Riverfront Development

New Delhi, March 8: Delhi Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected Vasudev Ghat and Yamuna Bazar Ghat to review progress of Yamuna cleaning and riverfront development.

They assessed sanitation systems, infrastructure status, and preparedness for upcoming monsoon challenges, stressing the need for uniform development across all ghats.

Officials were directed to accelerate floodplain restoration, greenway development, wetland conservation, and biodiversity enhancement along the river.The Lt Governor termed Yamuna rejuvenation, air pollution control, and water management as non negotiable priorities requiring mission mode execution.

He added that the initiative is based on public feedback and aims to address long standing concerns related to pollution and flooding.The Chief Minister highlighted that a major share of the Green Budget has been allocated for Yamuna cleaning and sewage management.

She also ordered removal of encroachments to improve water holding capacity and strengthen flood control mechanisms.A three point strategy focusing on desilting, smooth water flow, and permanent solutions for waterlogging was also emphasized.

Both leaders called for coordinated action among departments and development of riverfronts as continuous and accessible public spaces.

Strict measures were directed to curb pollution, illegal dumping, and ensure environmentally sustainable development along the Yamuna.
