New Delhi — In a proactive move to bolster public safety during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, Delhi Police organized a series of interaction-cum-briefing programs across all police districts today, aimed at enhancing the role of private security personnel under the ‘Prahari’ initiative.
These sessions were designed to reinforce the partnership between Delhi Police and private security guards, who act as vital force multipliers in maintaining law and order. Security guards from across the city received detailed briefings on security protocols, including the do’s and don’ts related to their duties. To further improve their operational readiness, security kits comprising caps, reflective jackets, batons, and whistles were distributed to all participants.

Commissioner of Police, Delhi, S.B.K. Singh, IPS, personally interacted with Praharis at two major events — one at the Multipurpose Hall, North Campus, University of Delhi, North District, attended by around 800 Praharis, and the other at the auditorium of the Lotus Temple in South-East District, attended by approximately 300 Praharis.
In his address, CP Singh lauded the complementary role of private security guards in enhancing public safety and emphasized the importance of their vigilance and alertness. He described the Praharis as an indispensable link in community policing, whose cooperation significantly strengthens the police’s reach, responsiveness, and effectiveness.

Senior police officers present at the North District event included Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS, Special CP/Law & Order (Zone-1); Madhur Verma, IPS, Joint CP/Central Range; S Raja Banthia, IPS, DCP/North; and Nidhin Valsan, IPS, DCP/Central. At the South-East District event, the dignitaries included Madhup Tewari, IPS, Special CP/Law & Order (Zone-II);. S.K. Jain, IPS, Joint CP/Southern Range; and Dr. Hemant Tiwari, IPS, DCP/South East District.

During the sessions, Praharis were advised to:
Conduct polite yet firm searches and frisking when necessary
Maintain constant observation of people and surroundings
Report suspicious persons or unusual activities immediately to the police
Stay alert to abandoned or unattended items, treating them as potential threats until cleared
Assist police in crowd management during Independence Day and festive events
