New Delhi – Delhi Police, in collaboration with Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi, organised a Drug Awareness and Prevention Programme on the college campus today. The event was graced by Devesh Chandra Srivastva, Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Delhi, as the Chief Guest.

Senior officers of Delhi Police, principals of Daulat Ram College, Miranda House, SRCC, Hansraj College, faculty members, dignitaries, and a large number of students participated in the programme.
The event began with the inauguration of the Awareness Wall created by Delhi Police, followed by the screening of a drug awareness video through Jan Sampark Vahan. A painting exhibition on drug prevention prepared by youth was also displayed. The ceremonial lamp lighting marked the formal inauguration, followed by cultural performances including Ganesh Vandana and impactful nukkad nataks by students of Delhi University and theatre artist Rahul Khanna’s group, all highlighting the dangers of drug abuse.

In his keynote address, Devesh Chandra Srivastva emphasized:
“Drug abuse is not merely a law-and-order challenge but a grave threat to our families, society, and the future of our youth. Drugs fuel crime and organized networks that exploit the younger generation. The true strength of our nation lies in its youth. If this energy is wasted in drugs, the nation suffers.”
He urged students to become “ambassadors of a drug-free Delhi” by spreading awareness among their peers and communities.

Delhi Police highlighted its ongoing initiatives under the Government of India’s Zero Tolerance Policy against Narcotic Drugs, led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Shri S.B.K. Singh, the force has intensified its anti-drug operations:
1,789 NDPS cases registered in 2024, with 2,290 traffickers arrested.
1,425 cases registered till July 31, 2025, with 1,784 traffickers arrested.
Operation Kawach: Nine citywide crackdowns since May 2023, latest being Operation Kawach 9.0 (August 9–10, 2025).
29 PITNDPS detention orders issued; proposals against another 29 traffickers in process.
Assets worth ₹22.6 crore frozen/seized; ₹8.77 crore under final attachment.
44,648 kg narcotics destroyed, valued at approx. ₹13,794.25 crore in the international market.
Awareness drives through MANAS Portal (1933 helpline), Anti-Drugs Clubs in schools/colleges, street plays, walkathons, and social media outreach.
The Special CP reiterated that while strict enforcement is essential, community involvement is equally vital:
“Law enforcement alone is not enough, society must also play an active role. Together, we must say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.”
The programme concluded with the felicitation of winners of the June 2025 painting competition, followed by a memento presentation to the Chief Guest. Sh. Surender Kumar, Joint CP (Crime), delivered the Vote of Thanks.
Delhi Police reaffirmed its commitment to making the capital a Drug-Free City through enforcement, preventive measures, and community engagement.
