Delhi Police Warns of LPG Booking Scams Amid Supply Crisis, Citizens Urged to Stay Alert

New Delhi | March 17, 2026: Amid concerns over LPG availability linked to the ongoing West Asia situation, Delhi Police has issued a public warning about a surge in online scams targeting residents. Fraudsters are circulating phishing messages and malicious links related to LPG bookings, attempting to exploit the situation.

Authorities said multiple complaints have been received on the national cybercrime helpline 1930, prompting officials to step up awareness efforts. Police teams have also been deployed across residential areas, while advisories are being shared through social media to caution citizens against suspicious messages.

Scammers are reportedly sending bulk SMS and WhatsApp messages claiming pending KYC updates, Aadhaar linking, or urgent payments to avoid disconnection. These messages often include links to fake websites or APK files designed to steal personal and financial information.

Officials revealed that fraudulent websites mimicking well-known LPG service providers have been identified and blocked. Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid clicking on unknown links, sharing OTPs, or making payments through unofficial platforms, and instead use only authorised apps or verified distributors.

Police said monitoring efforts have been intensified to track down those behind the scams, while public awareness campaigns—including videos and graphics—are being circulated to prevent people from falling victim. Residents can report such incidents via the helpline 1930 or the official cybercrime portal.
