Delhi Police Observes International Day of Older Persons 2025 with Awareness Programmes for Senior Citizens

PROGRAMMES HELD IN DISTRICTS TO SPREAD AWARENESS TO ENSURE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF SENIOR CITIZENS

Delhi – On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, several programmes were organised by Delhi Police in districts to spread awareness on the issues pertaining to safety and security of senior citizens and to extend its warm wishes to all senior citizens on this day.

Safety, security and well-being of senior citizens and addressing their concerns & grievances promptly is one of the primary responsibilities of Delhi Police. Showing commitment to this cause, Delhi Police has taken various measures to ensure safety and security of Senior Citizens. The Senior Citizen Cell a part of SPUWAC (Special Police Unit for Women and Children) is dedicated wing of Delhi Police responsible for providing assistance and support to senior citizens, including handling their grievances and offering various forms of help. From time-to-time, meetings of senior citizens are conducted at various levels, visits are made and measures are taken to augment their safety and security.

Delhi Police has been actively working on various initiatives to ensure the safety and security of senior citizens, including:
• Special helplines and emergency services
• Community policing initiatives
• Awareness programs on safety and security

Highlights of some of the programmes organised by Delhi Police on this occasion to recognize the valuable contributions and experiences of older persons in our society.

Northern Range
The Northern Range of Delhi Police organised a special program dedicated to the health, safety, and dignity of our elders at Utsav Sadan, New Police Lines, Kingsway camp with a participation of more than 300 senior citizens. The event was chaired by Ravindra Yadav, IPS, Spl. CP (L&O) Zone-I & Vijay Singh, IPS, Jt. CP/NR. The programme featured:
• Free Health Check-up Camp for Senior Citizens.
• Informative Lecture on Cyber Awareness to prevent online frauds.
• Screening of Videos on Cyber Crime for better understanding & prevention.
• Distribution of Plastic ID Cards for Senior Citizens’ safety & assistance.

Central and North Districts
The Central and North District Police jointly organized a special programme dedicated to senior citizens. The event was graced by  Madhur Verma, IPS, Joint CP/Central Range felicitated senior citizens for their invaluable contributions to society. As part of the programme, a Cyber Awareness Session was conducted to educate senior citizens about safe practices in the digital era. The session was addressed by  Nidhin Valsan IPS, DCP/Central,  Rishi Kumar IPS, Addl. DCP-I/Central,  Prashant Choudhary, Addl. DCP-II/Central,  Suma Maddha, Addl. DCP-II/North, and  Sulekha, ACP/Operations/Central, who enlightened the gathering on various aspects of cyber safety and preventive measures against online frauds. Renowned music composer and lyricist Shri Santosh Anand (87 years old) mesmerized the gathering with a soulful rendition.


In Dwarka district a program in observance of the International Day for Older Persons, Dwarka District Police organized a special awareness and outreach program at Centre for Cultural Resources & Training (CCRT), Sec 07 Dwarka, Delhi. The event was graced by the presence of senior police officers including Jatin Narwal, IPS, Jt. CP/WR, Rajneesh Gupta, IPS, Jt. CP/IFSO, Ankit Kumar Singh, IPS, DCP/Dwarka, Vineet Kumar, DCP/IFSO. As part of the programme, a free physiotherapy session was conducted by Kayakalp Physiotherapy Centre to promote health and active living among senior citizens.
A Cyber Awareness session was delivered by Jt. CP/IFSO, guiding elders on safe practices in the digital age and empowering them against online frauds and threats. Jt. CP/Western Range & Jt. CP/IFSO in their addresses, reaffirmed the commitment of Delhi Police, ensuring a safe and dignified environment for senior citizens
Around 300 Senior citizens from across Dwarka District participated in the program and expressed appreciation for the continued support and proactive measures by the police.

The Rohini District Police organized a vibrant and comprehensive event to celebrate International Day for Older Persons, emphasizing the well-being, security, and happiness of the area’s elderly residents at JIMS College, Sector 02, Rohini, Delhi. The day’s schedule had several activities focused on the holistic welfare of the senior citizens including Health Check-up Camp, Lecture on Cyber & Legal Awareness, Cultural Band/Singing Programme, Laughter Yoga etc.

Outer District
The Outer District Police, in association with 24×7 Care Foundation, organized a special programme titled “Aashirwad” at the DCP Office Complex. The event was aimed at honouring senior citizens and spreading awareness about issues that directly concern them. A series of sessions and activities were held, including Cyber Awareness Session, Legal Awareness Session, Health Talk, Registration Mela for facilitating the registration of senior citizens for support initiatives and grievance redressal mechanisms, Birthday Celebrations-where birthdays of two senior citizens were joyfully celebrated, adding a personal touch to the event and making them feel special and cherished. Sachin Sharma, DCP Outer District addressed the gathering, assuring elders of all possible support from Delhi Police.

West District
In West district the programme was held yesterday i.e. on the eve of International Day of Older Persons. The programme included various collaborative efforts. The 24×7 Care Foundation played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event. Fortis Hospital and Heeling Touch Eye Care Centre organized a Free Health Check-up Camp, ensuring easy access to essential medical services for the elderly. Hindi Academy organized a delightful Kavi Sammelan, where celebrated poets recited verses dedicated to the wisdom, emotions, and life experiences of senior citizens. One of the most touching moments of the day was the celebration of birthdays of senior citizens, which created a warm, family-like atmosphere and brought smiles to the faces of the elderly participants. Darade Sharad Bhaskar, IPS, DCP/West District addressed the gathering with an inspirational speech, reiterating Delhi Police’s commitment towards the safety, security, and dignity of senior citizens.

New Delhi District
The New Delhi District organised a Cyber Awareness Programme at Auditorium, PS Barakhamba Road. Lectures on cyber security were delivered to inform senior citizens about the various types of Cyber frauds and tips were shared to prevent cyber theft, phishing, scams etc. They were also advised not to share personal information over mobile, not to share any OTP, and not to open suspicious links shared via social media/messengers.

North-East District
In North-East District the International Day of Older Persons was celebrated at the DCP Office Complex, North-East District. The key highlights of the programme were free health check-up camp, sharing of safety and security tips along with guidance on tenant verification and a cyber awareness session.
