New Delhi, November 10, 2025- In a major step toward technology-enabled policing, the Delhi Police has received 75 surveillance drones from the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two institutions. The collaboration marks a significant stride in leveraging modern technology for enhanced security, surveillance, and women’s safety across the capital.

The handover ceremony took place at the IGDTUW Auditorium in the presence of Lt. Governor of Delhi and Chancellor of IGDTUW, V.K. Saxena, and Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Satish Golcha. The event was attended by several senior officials, including Spl. CP (Crime) . Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Jt. CP (Crime) Surender Kumar, Addl. CP (Crime) Mangesh Kashyap, and Prof. Ranjana Jha, Vice Chancellor, IGDTUW.
The MoU was signed by DCP (Crime HQ) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav on behalf of Delhi Police and Prof. Brijesh Kumar, Registrar, IGDTUW.
The 75 drones — comprising 1 large, 15 medium, and 59 small units — were developed and assembled by girl students of IGDTUW with technical support from an industry partner. The initiative was launched on the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

A total of 108 women police personnel from Delhi Police have been trained by IGDTUW under the program “Netra–Netrutva–Naari” (Vision–Leadership–Women), emphasizing women’s empowerment and participation in technology-driven policing.

The drones will be deployed across all 15 districts of Delhi, as well as specialized units like Crime Branch, Traffic, Railways, and Metro Police. They will support operations including crowd control, crime scene documentation, disaster response, and real-time surveillance — particularly in congested areas, during festivals, and public gatherings.
The Delhi Police has issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure drone operations comply with privacy norms, human rights standards, and The Drone Rules, 2021. The drones will not be used for unauthorized facial recognition or personal surveillance.

Speaking on the occasion, Spl. CP (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said that the MoU seeks to strengthen police capabilities through academic collaboration, technological innovation, and skill development. He highlighted that the initiative would help integrate cutting-edge technologies such as data analytics, image processing, blockchain analysis, and drone applications to enhance public safety and crime detection.
The drone launch is part of a larger “Seva Pakhwada” campaign, aimed at improving policing efficiency and promoting women’s safety in the capital.
