Delhi to Conduct First Digital Lottery for EWS, DG and CWSN School Admissions

Transparent Online Draw to Allocate Seats Under RTE for 2026–27 Academic Session

New Delhi, 6 April 2026 – The Delhi government is set to carry out its first computerised draw of lots on Monday for admissions under the Economically Weaker Section, Disadvantaged Group and Children with Special Needs categories for the 2026–27 academic session. The process, scheduled for 10 am, aims to ensure a fair and transparent allocation of seats in private schools across the national capital.

The admissions are being conducted under the provisions of the Right to Education Act, which mandates private unaided schools to reserve 25 percent of entry level seats for children belonging to these categories. The selection process is fully digital, reducing manual intervention and enhancing transparency.

According to officials, candidates selected through the draw will receive notifications via SMS on their registered mobile numbers, along with further instructions for document verification. Authorities have outlined a structured timeline for the next stages of the process.

Verification of documents will be carried out by zonal teams between April 9 and April 22, after which successful applicants can proceed with admissions in their allotted schools from April 9 to May 20.

Applicants are required to submit essential documents such as proof of age, residence, income certificate for EWS, caste certificate for DG applicants, and disability certificate for children applying under the CWSN category. Any discrepancies during verification will allow candidates a limited window to correct and resubmit documents.

Officials stated that a final decision on each application will be issued by the zonal authorities, with an option to appeal before the District Admission Monitoring Committee in case of disputes. Additional rounds of draw may also be conducted if seats remain vacant after the first phase.

The move reflects the Delhi government’s continued focus on leveraging technology to ensure fairness and accessibility in school admissions, particularly for underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society.
