CSPGCL Mine Tops National Safety Rankings for Fifth Consecutive Year

Gare Pelma Mine–III wins 7 awards among 65 mines at Coal Mine Safety Fortnight 2025

Raipur: Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) has once again set a benchmark in coal mine operations, with its Gare Pelma Mine–III emerging as the best-performing mine for the fifth consecutive year. The mine received a total of seven awards at the Annual Coal Mine Safety Fortnight 2025–26, organised by the Directorate General of Mines Safety under the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The awards were conferred after evaluation of operations at 65 coal mines. CSPGCL Chairman Dr Rohit Yadav (IAS) congratulated the officers and employees, saying the achievement reflects the commitment, skill and discipline of the power sector workforce. He urged the team to continue striving for excellence. Gare Pelma Mine–III secured first prize in the Overall Group-E category (production capacity of 3 to 5 million tonnes) for outstanding compliance with safety standards. The mine also won first prizes in Safety Management Plan, Explosives Management and Illumination, while securing second prizes in Mine Working, Dump Management, Reclamation & Afforestation, and Survey categories.

Managing Director S K Katiyar termed the achievement a matter of pride, noting that CSPGCL is successfully managing coal mining operations alongside power generation, an uncommon feat. He added that the mine ensures uninterrupted coal supply to the 2×500 MW ABVTPS Marwa project, supporting continuous power supply in the state. The awards were presented at a ceremony held in Baikunthpur, where CSPGCL also showcased its work through exhibition stalls. Chief Engineer (Civil), Project-I, Devendra Nath received the awards on behalf of the company.
