New Delhi, 9 May 2025: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a high-level review meeting today with senior officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) regarding cleanliness and waste management-related projects. The objective of the meeting was to ensure solutions that can transform the capital into a garbage-free, pollution-free, and more citizen-friendly city.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed on the progress of waste-to-energy plants operating in Narela-Bawana, Ghazipur, Okhla, and Tehkhand, along with updates on their planned expansions. A detailed discussion took place on the current status of these plants, their potential capacity enhancements, and future plans. The Chief Minister specifically instructed that the operation and expansion of these projects must be carried out with complete transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to timelines to ensure timely and effective outcomes for the public. She also directed that the expansion work of the Okhla and Tehkhand waste-to-energy plants be completed at the earliest.

The Chief Minister gave clear instructions to MCD to submit daily progress reports on the ongoing Mega Cleanliness Campaign in Delhi. She emphasized that cleanliness is among the top priorities of the Delhi government and asserted that the campaign must not remain symbolic but should reflect tangible and effective action on the ground.

The Chief Minister expressed displeasure over the slow pace of cleaning work and gave clear instructions to the MCD to speed up the garbage disposal process. And also instructed the officials to ensure that no one throws garbage in the drain. Taking serious note of the issue of stray cattle, she directed MCD to launch a special campaign.

The Chief Minister was also briefed on the progress of biomining at the Okhla, Bhalswa, and Ghazipur landfill sites. She reiterated the government’s commitment to acting decisively to eliminate the garbage mountains in Delhi. In light of the remaining waste volume, the Chief Minister directed that the garbage mounds at the Okhla, Ghazipur, and Bhalswa landfill sites be removed as soon as possible. She also instructed MCD to develop a comprehensive plan for better public use of these sites post-waste disposal.

Following the meeting, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta stated that making Delhi clean, beautiful, and well-organized is one of the government’s top priorities. She affirmed her commitment that every street, lane, and colony across the capital — regardless of location — must have equal access to cleanliness. She emphasized that sanitation should not be limited to garbage collection alone but must be a system involving solid waste management, drain cleaning, public toilet maintenance, and active citizen participation. The government has resolved to transform Delhi into a “Clean and Healthy Capital.” For this, the government is ensuring the use of modern technology, trained human resources, and accountability across all concerned departments. She said that today’s meeting was convened to discuss various aspects of this mission.
