New Delhi, June 11 – In a scathing critique of the BJP-led government, senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 11 years in office as a “shining monument of failures and anti-people policies.”
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Baghel accused the Modi government of misleading the country and promoting divisive politics for over a decade. “Modi ji came to power selling dreams, but 11 years later, those dreams have turned into nightmares for many citizens,” he said.
Taking aim at the BJP’s celebrations marking 11 years of Modi rule, Baghel questioned the government’s actual achievements. “There’s a lot of fanfare, but when you look closely, the public has gained very little. Most flagship schemes have failed to deliver,” he remarked.
He also alleged that the Prime Minister has played a major role in deepening societal divisions, saying, “His political journey has been more about breaking unity than building it.”
Baghel didn’t hold back in listing what he termed as governance failures. He pointed to the Kumbh Mela stampede, alleging underreporting of the death toll, and criticized the handling of demonetisation, calling it a move that caused economic chaos rather than curbing black money or terrorism.
“People died in queues, jobs vanished, and small businesses collapsed. And even after all that, terrorism and Naxalism continue,” Baghel said.
The Congress leader also took on the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, labeling it as unplanned and negligent. “The sudden lockdown displaced millions of migrant workers. The healthcare system crumbled, and countless lives were lost due to lack of timely treatment,” he said.
As the Modi government steps into its 12th year, the Opposition seems determined to highlight what it calls “unkept promises” and “public betrayal.”
