Fresh Snowfall Turns Badrinath Temple and Himalayan Peaks into a Winter Landscape

Snowfall in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district lowers temperatures, blankets shrine and surrounding mountains

Dehradun, March 16: A fresh spell of heavy snowfall swept through parts of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, covering the revered Badrinath Dham and nearby Himalayan ranges in a dense layer of snow and dramatically altering the region’s landscape.

The snowfall in the high-altitude areas coated temple premises, mountain slopes and surrounding valleys, creating a striking white panorama across the upper reaches of the district. The weather change also brought a significant dip in temperature, intensifying the cold conditions in the area.

Located in the Garhwal Himalayas, Badrinath is one of the most prominent pilgrimage centres dedicated to Lord Vishnu  and forms an important part of the Char Dham Yatra undertaken by devotees each year.

Officials said the snowfall was mainly concentrated in the higher Himalayan belt of the district, while lower areas experienced cold winds and cloudy skies. The fresh snow is expected to keep temperatures low in the region for the next few days.

Authorities are keeping a close watch on weather conditions in the mountainous terrain, where heavy snowfall can sometimes affect road connectivity and movement in remote areas.
