Education Minister Ashish Sood Visits MCD School Lajpat Nagar for Bag Distribution Ceremony, Sets Vision for AI-Enabled Government Schools

NEW DELHI : The Minister of Education, Govt. of Delhi (NCT),  Ashish Sood today visited MCD School, Lajpat Nagar-III, New Delhi for a bag distribution ceremony organised to support students across Ward 7 schools. The event coincided with the recently held Children’s Day celebrations and also marked 10 years since the Lajpat Nagar school’s transformation journey began- a milestone for the government’s efforts to ensure quality learning environments for every child.
The event was attended by Ms Bansuri Swaraj, MP (Lok Sabha); Yogesh Verma, Chairman, Education Committee, MCD Delhi and other MCD dignitaries; MLA -Neeraj Baisoya; Sharad Kapoor, Municipal Councilor, Deputy Chairman – Works Dept, Ms. Kruti Bharucha, CEO & Founder, Peepul, Sriniwas Tiwari, Principal, MCD School, Lajpat Nagar-III etc.

On this occasion the Hon’ble Minister of Education Ashish Sood said that It fills me with pride to be among our young learners today. Having studied in a government school myself, this is nothing short of a homecoming. These bags we hand out today are not just for books; they carry their dreams within leading them to a brighter future. Our teachers, who are among the most meritorious, play a crucial role in shaping these futures and building an Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.
Sood also said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Delhi’s Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta the Delhi Government will transform all government schools in the next five years to such an extent that future generations will seek recommendations for admission into these schools.

He further urged teachers to contribute as much as possible towards driving change in the education sector. He added that the government is upgrading all Delhi schools with AI-enabled education, high-quality furniture, and dynamic classrooms in line with the NEP-2020. The government is working at multiple levels to bring about the necessary improvements in Delhi’s government schools. This is a collective social responsibility government, community, and partners coming together to nurture dreams.
He also stated that whether it is an MCD school or a Delhi Government school, CSR funds will be utilised to upgrade all of them into advanced, modern, and world-class institutions.
Over 2,200 school bags were distributed to students from nursery to grade 5 across multiple schools in Ward 7, as part of a CSR partnership with GAIL. More than 500 students participated in the celebration today, which included cultural performances, dances, and a spirited welcome band by students of Grade 5 fromMCD School Jeewan Nagar School.
In 2015, the Lajpat Nagar school was one of the few government schools to be revitalised in partnership with Peepul, an education non-profit that has since expanded its support to transform public education for thousands of students and teachers across Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

Ms. Urmila Chowdhury, Co-founder & Director, Education of Peepul, shared that It is deeply meaningful to see this celebration take place at the school where Peepul began its journey a decade ago. Over these 10 years, we have witnessed how belief, collaboration, and quality teaching can truly transform classrooms.
The event reflected the shared vision of the Education Department and its partners – to create schools where children learn with joy, teachers teach with pride, and communities engage with purpose.
