In a major step toward improving the safety, comfort, and welfare of truck drivers across the country, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has launched the ‘Apna Ghar’ initiative. As of July 1, 2025, a total of 368 ‘Apna Ghar’ rest facilities with 4,611 beds have been set up by Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) at various retail outlets located along national highways. The initiative is part of the Government’s larger vision to ensure that truck drivers—who form the backbone of India’s logistics and supply chain—have access to essential amenities during their long-haul journeys.

Each ‘Apna Ghar’ center is equipped with dormitories (ranging from 10 to 30 beds), clean and accessible toilets, dedicated bathing facilities known as houdas, purified drinking water stations, and space for self-cooking.

Additionally, restaurants and dhabas are located nearby to provide nutritious food options. These centers are designed to offer not just rest, but also dignity and hygiene to truck drivers, helping reduce fatigue and improve road safety.

The initiative has garnered highly positive feedback from truckers, who have increasingly registered on and used the ‘Apna Ghar’ mobile application to locate and book facilities. This rising trend in usage reflects the practical value and impact of the scheme. The information was shared by  Suresh Gopi, Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on July 31, 2025.
