New Delhi, 18 August 2025: The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology, has signed an agreement with M/s Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, to support the development of an IoT-enabled, AI-powered point-of-care blood testing device aimed at providing affordable and accessible healthcare across India.
Founded by Sahil Jagnani and Ankit Choudhury, alumni of IIT Guwahati, Primary Healthtech emerged from a multidisciplinary team of doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs, professors, and students focused on creating diagnostic solutions for underserved populations. Their collaborative efforts, initially supported by BIRAC, led to the development of Mobilab—a portable, battery-operated clinical chemistry analyzer. The device is IoT-enabled, powered by AI/ML algorithms, and capable of testing more than 25 health parameters, including kidney, liver, heart, vitamins, and cancer markers.
The company holds a patent for a “transmittance-based system/kit for point-of-care quantification” transferred from IIT Guwahati and has filed over six additional patents covering integrated mixers, assay development, centrifuges, and proprietary optical systems. Mobilab has already been tested on 10,000 patients and recently received a CDSCO manufacturing license.
The TDB-supported project will enhance the current prototype (M1) to perform five tests simultaneously, significantly reducing patient waiting times, and will establish commercial-scale manufacturing. The upgraded Mobilab will cover tests such as Hemoglobin, Creatinine, Bilirubin, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Uric Acid, Glucose, and GGT, among others.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, emphasized:
“Ensuring quality healthcare access in rural and remote regions is a national priority. This project demonstrates India’s ability to develop indigenous, AI-powered diagnostic solutions for primary healthcare.”
The promoters of Primary Healthtech expressed their gratitude, stating that TDB’s support will accelerate the journey from lab innovation to large-scale deployment, bridging the healthcare gap for rural and underserved communities.
This collaboration highlights TDB’s commitment to fostering indigenous healthcare innovations in line with Atmanirbhar Bharat, advancing India’s presence in affordable medical technologies globally.
