New Delhi: A devastating fire engulfed a four-storey residential building in the Sadh Nagar area of southwest Delhi on Wednesday morning, claiming the lives of five members of a single family and leaving three others injured.
According to initial reports, a total of nine family members were inside the building when the fire broke out. The flames and thick smoke spread rapidly, trapping those inside and creating panic in the densely populated locality.
Emergency response teams, including multiple fire tenders, police personnel, and ambulances, rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. Firefighters carried out an intensive rescue operation, managing to evacuate those trapped while battling the blaze.
Officials confirmed that three injured individuals were shifted to a nearby private hospital in Palam, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Due to the narrow lanes in the area, some ambulances had to be stationed at a distance, slightly affecting the speed of evacuation.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire originated in one section of the building before quickly spreading to other floors. However, the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation, and further clarity on the reason behind the fire is expected after a thorough inspection of the site.
