US Senator Backs Trump’s Tariff Threat on India Over Russian Oil Trade

US President Donald Trump has once again targeted India over its ongoing trade ties with Russia, particularly its purchase and resale of Russian oil. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump accused India of “war profiteering” by purchasing large volumes of Russian oil and reselling it at a profit, threatening to impose “substantially higher tariffs” in response.

Backed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, Trump’s statement has sparked diplomatic concern. Graham posted on X, praising Trump’s hard stance and added, “Making those like India pay a price for their war profiteering is a good place to start.”

The former US President also reiterated claims that India imposes excessively high tariffs on American goods and has not been a “good trading partner.” He announced a new 25% tariff effective July 30, citing India’s continued military and energy purchases from Russia and stringent non-monetary trade barriers.

Despite India’s longstanding strategic ties with both the US and Russia, these developments indicate increasing pressure from Washington amid the prolonged Ukraine conflict.
