Taiwan Education Centre Inaugurated at Chennai Institute of Technology to Strengthen Indo-Taiwan Educational Ties

The centre will provide Mandarin training, student exchange programmes, and research opportunities, marking a new milestone in bilateral collaboration.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu), September 1 (ANI): The Taiwan Education Centre (TEC) was inaugurated at the Chennai Institute of Technology, opening a new chapter in educational and cultural cooperation between India and Taiwan.

The Centre aims to offer training in the Mandarin language, facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes, initiate collaborative research, and create pathways for Indian students to pursue higher education in Taiwan.

The event was jointly organised by National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Chennai, and Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. Representatives from these institutions highlighted the historical ties between India and Taiwan and underlined the importance of expanding educational partnerships.

Chairman of Chennai Institute of Technology, P. Sriram, presided over the ceremony and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to global academic excellence. The Director General of TECC, Stephen S. C. Hsu, TECC Chennai’s Director of Education, Jill Lai, and Professor Wei-Sung Wang, Director of the Taiwan NTHU India Research Center, addressed the gathering, stressing the role of collaboration in driving academic innovation.

As part of the first training initiative, 64 students from Chennai Institute of Technology are currently learning Mandarin, enhancing their prospects for global career opportunities and higher studies abroad.

According to the organisers, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education has been actively encouraging institutions worldwide to promote Mandarin learning. This step is expected to equip Indian students with valuable linguistic skills while also strengthening educational and cultural exchanges between India and Taiwan.
