Shehbaz Sharif Says Pakistan Ready for Neutral, Unbiased Probe into Pahalgam Terror Attack

Islamabad, Apr 26 , 2025: In response to India’s countermeasures following the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Islamabad is willing to cooperate in “a neutral and transparent” investigation into the incident, which New Delhi asserts has direct links to Pakistan.

Speaking at the passing-out ceremony at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, Sharif remarked: “The recent Pahalgam tragedy is yet another reflection of the ongoing blame game, which must be brought to an end. Maintaining its stance as a responsible nation, Pakistan is prepared to engage in any neutral, transparent, and credible probe,” according to a report by Dawn.

Although Islamabad continues to deny any involvement in the April 22 attack — where 26 tourists lost their lives at the hands of Islamic terrorists — a striking contradiction has emerged. Pakistan’s Defence Minister, in an interview with Sky News, acknowledged that Pakistan had been using terrorist groups to execute covert operations on behalf of the United States in the region for over thirty years.

This admission sharply undercuts Pakistan’s persistent denials and reinforces its longstanding association with terror outfits, often employed for proxy wars against India and Afghanistan over decades.

Meanwhile, New Delhi’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty has triggered considerable anxiety within Pakistan. Islamabad has warned that any move to halt or redirect the flow of Indus waters would be viewed as an act of war.

Taking a combative tone, PM Shehbaz Sharif declared, “Water is Pakistan’s vital national interest, its lifeline. Let there be no doubt — its flow will be protected at any cost and under all conditions. Any attempt to stop, reduce, or divert waters allocated to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty will be met with full force and strength.”

India has vowed strong retribution for the Pahalgam attack, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi promising that those behind the heinous act — both perpetrators and planners — would be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.
