US Military Strikes Houthi Bases in Yemen’s Saada Province

The US military, stationed in the Red Sea, has launched fresh airstrikes on Yemen’s northern province of Saada. The strikes targeted areas around the province’s namesake central city, a key stronghold of the Houthi movement. While there have been no immediate reports of casualties, the attack marks an escalation in the ongoing conflict between US forces and the Iran-backed Houthis.

The airstrikes came just hours after the Houthis claimed responsibility for launching attacks on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea and Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. The group, which has been engaged in a prolonged conflict with the Saudi-led coalition and Western allies, has increasingly targeted maritime and regional military assets in what they claim is retaliation for aggression against Yemen.

The recent strikes are part of an ongoing air campaign initiated by US forces in mid-March against Houthi-controlled territories in Yemen. Over the past seven days, US fighter jets and drones have conducted multiple raids on northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, as well as key military sites in Saada province, the Houthis’ main stronghold. These strikes are aimed at neutralizing Houthi military infrastructure and deterring further attacks on US and allied forces in the region.

The escalation follows months of heightened tensions in the Red Sea, where the Houthis have targeted commercial vessels and military assets belonging to Western and regional adversaries. The US and its allies have repeatedly accused the group of destabilizing maritime security and threatening global trade routes.

Saada province, located in northern Yemen, is considered the heartland of the Houthi movement. The region has been a focal point of the conflict since the group took control in the early 2000s. It serves as the primary base for Houthi operations, housing key command centers, arms depots, and supply routes linking the group to Iranian support networks. The US and its allies have intensified strikes on Saada in an effort to disrupt Houthi logistics and weaken their operational capacity.
