Myanmar hosts food industry development forum to boost local food production

Yangon, Feb, 20,2025: Myanmar inaugurated the Food Industry Development Forum (2025) on Wednesday in Nay Pyi Taw, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Thursday.

Addressing the launch event, Chairman of Myanmar’s State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated that the forum offers a platform to examine, deliberate, and share perspectives on the strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities within the domestic food sector, the report noted. He emphasized that efforts should be directed toward supporting and fulfilling the needs of local food enterprises aimed at securing domestic consumption and boosting exports, the report highlighted.

Food, clothing, and shelter are the three fundamental necessities for survival. Of these, food remains the most vital and basic daily requirement, he remarked. Ensuring the distribution of quality food at reasonable prices would guarantee food security, public accessibility, and the availability of products that meet export standards. To achieve this, the government is employing various strategies to advance the country’s internal food production industry, the report added.

Min Aung Hlaing underlined that Myanmar’s rich agricultural resources present a unique opportunity to strengthen the food industry. He called for collaboration between the government and private sectors to harness modern technologies, improve production methods, and create a more resilient food supply chain. Such efforts, he noted, would not only meet domestic needs but also position Myanmar as a competitive player in the global food market.

The Chairman also touched on the importance of food safety and quality control, urging industry stakeholders to adopt international standards and practices. By doing so, Myanmar can enhance the reputation of its food products and build trust with global trading partners.

The two-day forum features panel discussions, exhibitions, and networking opportunities, bringing together union ministers, military officials, business leaders, and food industry participants, according to the report. Topics covered include sustainable agriculture, food innovation, supply chain management, and export strategies. Participants are expected to generate actionable insights and policy recommendations that will contribute to the long-term growth and stability of Myanmar’s food industry.

The event’s organizers expressed optimism that the forum would serve as a catalyst for positive change, fostering stronger partnerships and driving forward-thinking initiatives to ensure food security and economic prosperity for the nation.
