PM Modi expresses grief over the loss of lives in the US air accident

New Delhi, Jan,31,2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the tragic mid-air collision in Washington, DC, which claimed 67 lives. He reaffirmed India’s support for the people of the United States.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister stated:
“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the unfortunate collision in Washington, DC.
Our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims.
India stands in solidarity with the people of the United States.”

He also tagged US President Donald Trump in his message.

The disaster involved an American Airlines flight and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter conducting a training exercise. All 64 passengers aboard the PSA Airlines jet, operating as American Airlines 5342, lost their lives, along with three soldiers onboard the helicopter.

The tragic collision occurred around 9:00 PM local time on Wednesday as the passenger jet was nearing its destination at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Both aircraft plummeted into the Potomac River—the jet broke apart and submerged, while the helicopter overturned upon impact with the water.
