Bangladesh: India recalls non-essential staff from embassy and consulates in Dhaka

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been chosen chairman of Bangladesh’s interim administration, a day after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and departed the country. The protest leaders expect the members of Yunus’ interim administration to be announced on Wednesday.

Yunus’ appointment followed a meeting on late Tuesday with student protest leaders, military officers, civil society activists, and corporate leaders.

Hasina, who has ruled the country since 2009, resigned on Monday and arrived at the Hindon Air Base in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on a C-130 cargo plane, where she is staying in a safe house. According to media sources, she is likely to travel to London and seek political asylum.
