R Madhavan Defends Ranveer Singh: “A Couple of Flops Don’t End a Career, Even Tom Cruise Had His Lows”

As anticipation grows for their upcoming film Dhurandhar, R Madhavan has come to the defense of co-star Ranveer Singh, dismissing claims that the actor needed a “comeback.” In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Madhavan refuted the idea that Ranveer had been “written off” after a few underwhelming performances.

“I don’t think Ranveer Singh has ever been written off. A couple of ‘not so good’ films doesn’t end an actor’s career. He’s truly good and an extraordinary actor,” Madhavan said. “But it makes good copy in the press and media to keep writing people off and bring them back.”

Calling Ranveer a “secure actor,” Madhavan further remarked that the pressure to stay constantly visible is misguided. “In Hollywood, great actors like Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks don’t do 50-60 films. They do 14-15 across their careers. That’s the pace of doing good stories,” he said. “Here, we think that if we are not shooting for three months, we are losing market value. But both Ranveer and I don’t carry that insecurity.”

Madhavan also reflected on the changing landscape of cinema. With modern audiences being more informed and discerning, he emphasized the need for deeper storytelling, stronger characters, and more thoughtful filmmaking.
