Mumbai, June 7 – Bollywood director Manish Gupta has been booked by the Mumbai Police after allegedly stabbing his driver during a dispute over unpaid wages. The incident reportedly took place on the night of June 5 at Gupta’s residence in the Sagar Sanjog building located in the Andheri suburb of the city.
According to officials from Versova police station, the victim—identified as 38-year-old Mohammad Lashkar—had been employed by Gupta for nearly three years, drawing a monthly salary of ₹23,000. Police sources claim that the filmmaker had a history of not paying his driver’s wages on time, resulting in repeated confrontations.
The situation escalated on Thursday night when Lashkar visited Gupta’s residence to demand his pending dues, including his salary for the previous month. During the altercation, Gupta allegedly retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed Lashkar on the right side of his torso.
An FIR was lodged on June 6 at the Versova police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 118(1) (causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons), 115(2), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).
While no arrest has been made so far, police have confirmed that a summons has been issued to Manish Gupta, directing him to present himself for further investigation.
Authorities said the matter remains under active investigation, and statements from the victim and other witnesses are being recorded to ascertain the full sequence of events.
