PRESIDENT OF INDIA GRACES CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF NATIONAL FORENSIC SCIENCES UNIVERSITY

Gandhinagar, Feb 28, 2025 : The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the convocation ceremony of the National Forensic Sciences University in Gandhinagar today. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized that a justice-oriented social system is highly valued in India. By integrating tradition with progress, the nation is building a developed and equitable society.

She noted that in recent years, the Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented several significant measures to enhance forensic science capabilities and expand infrastructure in this field. The President stressed that a justice system can only be considered strong if it is inclusive. She urged students to prioritize delivering fair and swift justice based on forensic evidence, particularly for marginalized and underprivileged sections of society.

Highlighting recent legal reforms, the President stated that the three new criminal laws have introduced crucial changes in crime investigation and evidence collection. It is now mandatory for forensic experts to visit crime scenes in cases where the punishment is seven years or more. The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita mandates the establishment of forensic facilities across all states within a fixed timeframe, and several laws now require forensic examinations to be conducted promptly. These changes, she said, will increase demand for forensic professionals.

The President further remarked that with rapid advancements in digital technology and Artificial Intelligence, forensic experts are becoming more proficient. However, criminals are also evolving their tactics. To effectively combat crime and ensure justice, those involved in policing, prosecution, and the criminal justice system must stay smarter, quicker, and more vigilant than offenders.

She expressed confidence that the National Forensic Sciences University will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s forensic framework, boosting conviction rates, and instilling fear among criminals, thereby contributing to a safer and more just society.
