For fitness-conscious coffee lovers struggling to give up their favourite cold coffee, nutrition experts are now recommending a healthier alternative that promises both flavour and fewer calories.

A trending “coconut water cold coffee” recipe is gaining popularity online as a refreshing drink that combines hydration with caffeine while supporting weight-loss goals.

The recipe, recently highlighted by nutritionist Shikha Singh through a social media video, replaces sugar-heavy syrups and creamy additives with coconut water, coffee and low-fat milk. According to her, many people unknowingly consume excess calories through daily cold coffee habits, which can slow down weight-loss progress.

Sharing the concept, the nutritionist explained that fresh coconut water forms the base of the drink. Instant coffee is blended with a small quantity of stevia instead of sugar, honey or jaggery. The mixture is then frothed using a milk frother to create a creamy texture before adding ice cubes, more coconut water and around 50 ml of low-fat or double-toned milk.

She described the beverage as a “guilt-free” option that can be prepared within minutes and enjoyed as a breakfast companion or an evening refreshment.

Health experts believe the growing popularity of coconut water coffee is linked to its dual benefits — hydration and reduced calorie intake. Coconut water naturally contains electrolytes, making it useful during summer when dehydration levels tend to rise.

Dietitian Anna Smith noted in a recent wellness report that combining coffee with coconut water can help replenish fluids lost through sweating while still delivering the caffeine boost many people rely on. She explained that adding electrolytes to a diet routine may support metabolism and help maintain hydration levels during hot weather.

Nutrition professionals also suggest that timing matters when consuming caffeinated beverages. Dietitian and fitness trainer Alix Turoff recommended drinking coconut water coffee either in the morning or after workouts.

According to her, the body is often mildly dehydrated after waking up, and pairing coffee with coconut water may help restore fluids more effectively than regular sugary coffee drinks. She further said the beverage can serve as a healthier substitute for conventional sports drinks that often contain artificial colours and added sugars.

With increasing awareness about calorie intake and healthier lifestyle choices, the coconut water cold coffee trend is attracting attention among young adults and fitness enthusiasts. The drink is being promoted as a lighter alternative to traditional café-style cold coffees that are typically loaded with sugar, whipped cream and syrups.

However, experts also caution that such wellness trends should not replace balanced nutrition or professional medical advice. Readers are advised to consult qualified health professionals before making significant dietary changes.
