Modern Drainage System Essential for Rapidly Growing Gurugram: Rekha Sharma

New Delhi, March 30: Rajya Sabha Member Smt. Rekha Sharma raised the issue of urban flooding and drainage infrastructure in rapidly expanding Gurugram through a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha.

Highlighting Gurugram’s emergence as one of the country’s leading economic and technological centres, Smt. Sharma stated that the city hosts numerous multinational companies and plays a significant role in employment generation, investment promotion and innovation. She emphasized that strengthening core urban infrastructure is essential to sustain Gurugram’s continued growth and development.

While appreciating the Government’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure planning across the country through visionary initiatives such as the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, she noted that rapid urbanisation and increasing population have led to recurring challenges related to waterlogging during the monsoon season in parts of the city.

Sharma stressed that these challenges require coordinated and forward-looking planning, including the development of modern drainage systems, strengthening stormwater infrastructure, improved urban design and the effective use of advanced technologies in city planning.

She further stated that strengthening urban infrastructure will not only improve the quality of life for residents but will also help maintain Gurugram’s position as a major economic hub of national importance.

She urged the concerned authorities to take proactive and long-term measures to address urban flooding issues and support sustainable infrastructure development in Gurugram.
